We left the WeCCARE head quarters at 3 pm haven spend the
day 21st December getting the necessary materials for the medical
outreach. The previous day we had consulted 11 people and diagnosed 6 persons
with hernias. Dr Oben Sammy the plastic surgeon and co founder of WeCCARE and
the team arrived the Mfou prison and were greeted by the prison director,
Patrick Gaughan shared the gospel and prayed with the team and patients and
workers of the Mfou penitentiary and work started immediately. Dr Oben started
the surgery on a patient for a double hernia but realized that the patient in
question Elomo was also suffering for appendicitis. The surgery for hernia
had to be suspended for Elomo and an Appendectomy Practiced on him. Elomo’s
surgery took 3 hours. Immediately after Elomo’s surgery, Joseph was next to,
he was to be operated for hernia. The surgery started at 6:52 pm, and 2 hours
latter was completed successfully.
On the 22th of September 2013 the WeCCARE team
made up of 10 persons assisted by the prison ministry started with prayers and
sharing of the different task, we prayed and had breakfast and off to the
first surgery case. Patrick Gaughan was in charge of consulting the patience and Dr
Oben operated those who needed surgery. The first person to go for surgery was Marcel, who was not only diagnosed of hernia but also scabies. Dr Oben discovered the hernia was strangulated and by God’s grace all went
on successfully., Marcel the guy whose call for help brought us to the prison escaped death and we are thankful to God for it.At the end Marcel was transported to a prison cell recently cleaned to
be used as a post operation room.
Immediately after him the next on the list was
Timothee, a 55 years old. He had a very low pulse and his blood pressure was very
low, it took about 30 minutes before any surgery could be practice on him. He
had a double hernia and both were carried out successfully. Alexandria Was next and he too had appendicitis, it seems as if these are common with the inmates here at Mfou, an Appendectomy was done first and then followed by
hernia. We ran short of spinal anesthesia and had to rely on local. His surgery
went well and was finished at 6:15 pm.At 6:20pm, Philomene was on the OPR table. She needed surgery for umbilical hernia. She was our last patient as we ran short of drugs and anesthesia to continue with the other inmates. As the surgeries were going on in the Operating room (OPR) . More than 22 persons were consulted and given drugs 6 surgeries, and wipes, rubs, combs, mouth wash and some other toiletries were given to the inmates for personal hygiene. WeCCARE in partnership with the Prison ministry and Bread For Life international have all agreed to give the Post Operation patience protein food to help them heal , they are malnourished, Our mission ended with a success note we believe so and we are planning another mission on the 28-29 December 2013 still at the Mfou prison to continue and maybe finish our mission there. Please do feel free to contact WeCCARE Foundation and partner with us or donate to help the needy and even volunteer with WeCCARE. God bless you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year .
